Early Morning Sewing

I couldn't sleep last night.
Ever have those nights???

I got up WELL before dawn today and began
building a WALL.

**Every year I make quilts for the high school graduates
at my church....(with the help of others!)
and THIS year the youth group has
EXPLODED!!!!**

I figured I'd better get GOING.....
I don't want to be caught without a QUILT
for someone
at the end of this school year!!!
;)

I had these "building blocks" already cut...
so it was a simple matter to begin piecing them
when sleep wouldn't come.

Blocks were constructed by using
4" strips (width of fabric)
and
3" strips (width of fabric)

Two were sewn together and pressed.

Then I cut the "Blocks" into 8" segments.

I was able to get 5 "BLOCKS" out of each strip set.

Then....
just for fun.....

I made some with
2" strips  (width of fabric)
and
5" strips (width of fabric)

Again....
I cut them into 8" chunks.

I am now constructing my WALL...

I'll let you know when the mortar is SET.
;)

  1. Where is your sewing machine that you can sew in the wee hours without waking the rest of the house? My husband would disown me!

  2. It's in the dining room...JUST far enough away from the bedrooms...I think. No one complained about lack of sleep last night. LOL! ;)

  5. That's how you get so much done! I knew you had to be finding more hours in your day! I couldn't think straight at the time of day though. I'd never figure it out.
I have hit the sewing machine in the early hours, but not for a long time. Now I just read.
    I love the quilt!

  6. I know exactly how those kinds of sleepless nights go! I usually do hand work but would love to piece too if it didn't disturb other family members!

  9. Having my sewing machine in the bedroom precludes me from early morning sewing sessions! Your wall is looking good!

  10. I have had those sleepless nights, but have to say I never started building a wall, lol.

Your tradition of giving each graduate a quilt is lovely.
